Rail: North of the Border Conference 2019
On the 26th of March, some of the Brodie Engineering team attended the Rail: North of the Border Conference in Glasgow. At the event were exhibition stands, a high-quality line up of speakers and many technical seminars including a presentation from Barbara McIntyre, Engineering Director for Brodie Engineering. Barbara spoke about a project the company completed in which a unit was resurrected after being caught in a flood and how Brodie Engineering became a ROSCO.
156478 became partially submerged in floodwater on the Glasgow/Carlisle route. The unit was left for some days where the underframe and equipment were flooded and the interior was also water damaged. After the train was written off by the insurance company, Brodie Engineering decided to buy the unit and repair it. A C4 and C6 overhaul was carried out on the unit as well as work on all the electricals and a full interior and exterior refresh.
156478 has returned to passenger-carrying service and is now on lease back to Abellio ScotRail, helping them to meet their operational requirements. Since this, the 156478 has travelled over a quarter of a million miles - impressive for a unit that was written off!
